JOINT TASK FORCE - FULL ACCOUNTING
Joint Task Force - Full Accounting (JTF-FA) was created January 23, 1992. Its mission is to resolve the cases of Americans still unaccounted-for as a result of the Southeast Asian conflict. Since its creation, it has repatriated more than 400 remains.
The task force is supported by detachments in Bangkok, Thailand, Hanoi, Vietnam, Vientiane, Laos, Phnom Penh, Cambodia and various agencies within the Department of Defense, representatives of the Defense POW/MIA office, and the anthropologists and casualty resolution specialists at the Central Identification Laboratory, Hawaii (CILHI). JTF-FA does not conduct recovery operations outside of the Vietnam War. Only CILHI teams conduct worldwide recoveries.
Since its inception in 1992, JTF-FA has conducted almost 2,800 case investigations and 470 recovery operations, which have led to the repatriation of more than 450 sets of remains believed to be unaccounted-for Americans.
JTF-FA operations include investigations, archival research, an Oral History Program, and remains recovery operations. The task force grew out of the previously established Joint Casualty Resolution Center, an organization that began spearheading U.S. government accounting efforts in 1973.
JTF-FA is co-located with United State Pacific Command (PACOM), Camp H. M. Smith, Honolulu, Hawaii.
