World Premiere
May 22, 2001
The second night of the World Premiere for the movie, Pearl Harbor, was for active duty military personnel, DOD employees and guests. The World Premiere was shown aboard the aircraft carrier, USS STENNIS, which was docked at Pearl Harbor.
The line of movie goers continued alongside the aircraft carrier by following the red carpet. They then climbed the gangway to the hanger deck and rode the aircraft elevator to the flight deck. |

At dusk, you could see the USS ARIZONA and USS MISSOURI in the background. It was a solemn experience sitting on the aircraft carrier, watching the Pearl Harbor movie, and actually being there where history was made with the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri not far away at sunset. The war started with the sinking of the USS Arizona and ended with the surrender of the Japanese on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Now, both veterans of that war rest next to each other. |
